Ensure the safety and wellbeing of McLean Borden Cottage clients using the outdoor aquatic facilities by preventing, recognizing and responding to emergencies. The lifeguard will work directly with residents providing courteous, friendly and professional assistance. The lifeguard is team oriented, friendly and outgoing. This is a part-time per diem position and is active for the months of June and September.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Scans the area of surveillance to make sure that patients are safe and behaving according to the rules
• Acts in emergency situations and provides rescue and first aid assistance up to his or her training level until medical personnel arrive
• Inspects the aquatic facility for unsafe conditions and cleanliness to prevent accidents and reports any hazards to supervisor
• Enforces rules consistently and fairly
• Fills out reports for incidents or other records for reference
• Interacts politely with patients and staff
• Maintains proper patient to Lifeguard ratios in pool
• Knows safety precautions for individuals in pool
• Takes all problems and concerns to supervisor
• Attends meetings and training sessions
• Managing pool PH test kit
• Clean pool deck at end of day
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

• Lifeguard certification
• American Red Cross First aid
• AED/CPR
• Any other certifications that are required by local law
• Ability to be alert in a high-risk environment, follow standard procedures in crisis situations and act in accordance with established guidelines
• Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills with the English language
• Renews required certifications when they expire
• Stays fit to perform job adequately which requires swimming endurance and strength
• Demonstrates initiative, judgment, dependability, cooperation and appropriate utilization of supervisor
• Maintains a professional appearance and confidentiality
• Display team spirit and enthusiasm; promote a friendly group
• Environment includes outdoors in heat and direct sunlight; lifeguarding chair and umbrella provided.
• May be required to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays
• All employees must possess basic computer skills to use a variety of electronic or online systems for communication, clinical and administrative purposes.
