2020-2021 Emergency Substitute Teacher - District Wide Job Description

This is a JOB POOL POSTING. Applying does not guarantee a substitute position with SUSD.

Applications are reviewed in the order they are received. Scottsdale Unified School District will assist candidates who meet required licensing requirements, background and reference checks with obtaining an Emergency Substitute Certification through the Arizona Department of Education. Emergency Substitute Certifications are valid for one school year and the individual is limited to 120 days of substitute teaching per school year.

:$105/Day

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Managing student learning, in the absence of the regular teacher in accordance with the goals and directives of the District.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The minimum performance expectations include but are not limited to the following:

Maintains a positive learning environment for all students and a professional relationship with all staff in accordance with district policy. Ensures adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students. Implements lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

One year of teaching experience is preferred.

Licensing Requirements:

Official high school transcripts documenting graduation from high school;or A photocopy of your high school diploma;or A photocopy of your GED certificate;or Official transcripts from a college or university documenting an Associate’s degree Valid Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Special Requirements:

Candidate must be able to provide 3 professional references with at least 1 being a supervisor. Candidate must be at least 21 years of age. Candidate must attend an orientation session. Candidate must agree to authorize Scottsdale Unified School District to conduct a Criminal Background check.

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of:

Must be able to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students. Candidate must have the ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies.

Skill in:

Effective communication skills. Must possess good moral character. Must possess basic computer skills and abilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classrooms, gymnasium, cafeteria, auditorium, and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 30 pounds and occasional lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to 40 pounds may be required. Other physical activities may be required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise and hazards. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular Instruction to special needs children may be necessary. Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required on assigned days. Regular contact with other staff members and building administrator(s) is required on assigned days as a substitute.
