The University of Washington (UW) Department of Family Medicine (DFM) is recruiting applicants to join our growing and dynamic behavioral health team as a full-time clinical psychologist and faculty in the Family Medicine Residency section. The UW School of Medicine is a recognized leader in primary care, family medicine, and rural medicine by U.S. News and World Report. This position incudes many diverse opportunities to contribute to the expansion of integrated behavioral health, including clinical services in integrated primary care, program development and new clinical pathways, and teaching as a behavioral health scientist providing education to Family Medicine residents. In addition, there might be opportunities for scholarly work, such as quality improvement and research initiatives, interprofessional committees and other service. We welcome unique and novel ideas on how to advance integrated behavioral health and innovate our curriculum.

Acting Assistant Professors hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The anticipated start date is April 1, 2023, or soon thereafter.

The full-time base salary range for this position will be: $5,287 - $11,954 per month ($63,444 - $143,443 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Clinical Duties

• Maintain a clinical practice as an integrated behavioral health psychologist/Behavioral Medicine Consultant (BHC), providing consultation to primary care providers (PCP’s) and attending and treating patients at the University of Washington Neighborhood Clinic Northgate Family Medicine Residency Clinic. Other clinic placements within UW Family Medicine clinics may also be possible.
• Function as a contributing member of an interdisciplinary team delivering recommendations to PCPs relative to psychosocial intervention strategies and conduct follow-up consultations to reinforce interventions
• Participate in same-day visit service-delivery to support warm hand-off, integrated behavioral health/primary care behavioral health model of care
• Provide focused, evidence-based, clinical interventions to patients to promote symptoms management, skill building, and improvement in functioning
• Develop and deliver population-health based group programming (e.g., chronic pain, diabetes management, sleep improvement, stress management groups)
• Other positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, experience in integrated primary care, other medical settings, and/or in health psychology and clinical experience with pediatrics

Education

• Contribute to behavioral health education of UW Family Medicine residents, including didactic teaching of evidence-based behavioral practices within the residency curriculum
• Provide clinical supervision and evaluation to Family Medicine residents
• Facilitate in-clinic teaching to multiple learners (e.g., Medicine residents, PA students, medical students) through visit shadowing, direction observation, shared medical-behavioral health visits
• Support the Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences Psychology Residency Integrated Primary Care track by providing clinical supervision for psychology residents/postdocs, supporting psychology resident/postdoc training opportunities in the department, and assisting with new resident/postdoc recruitment
• Other positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, prior experience in behavioral health education

Qualifications

• Doctorate in psychology (PhD or PsyD) or foreign equivalent
• Psychologist license or license-eligible in Washington State

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduate of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
