  As a Patient Care Tech, you will play a critical role in continuing the healing mission of Deaconess.
  
  Job Overview:
  Patient Care Technicians provide direct patient care as delegated by a registered nurse and in cooperation with other team members. Duties performed by PCT include helping patients with activities of daily living, personal hygiene, nourishment and other treatments and procedures.
  
  Under the supervision of the RN, the Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs various care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs, comfort and safety for a specific patient population (ANA Standards of Delegation, 2004). The PCT must be able to demonstrate growth and development knowledge and skills to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patient served. Employee must be able to successfully complete job specific orientation, competencies, and meet/exceed standards as identified in the criteria based performance appraisal. PCTs must demonstrate awareness of patient’s rights in all aspects of patient care and reports issue to appropriate person. The PCT demonstrates leadership through coordination of unit equipment and activities.
  
  The Patient Care Technician is a member of the multidisciplinary team, under the direction of the RN, which provides or assists with basic patient care requirements, treatments and procedures. Communicates to the RN pertinent findings or observations noted while providing patient care and comfort. Assist professional staff with basic life support principles.
  
  Unit Description:
  The smaller size of the Neuro Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU) promotes teamwork and communication between coworkers and creates a positive, collaborative work environment. The staff works closely with neurosurgeons, neurologists, intensivists, and hospitalists to ensure the best care possible for our patients.
  
  This 19-bed specialty unit provides care for ICU level neuroscience and medical patients. The patient population on the Neuro ICU unit includes cranial surgery, neuro-endovascular procedures, neuro-medical conditions, such as stroke, as well as medical conditions requiring intensive care. Deaconess Gateway Hospital has been designated as a certified Primary Stroke Center by the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP). This unit is the designated stroke critical care unit, and our staff is very knowledgeable about quality standards of care, which we meet and exceed at our facility. Nurses working on this unit receive training in 12-Lead EKG, BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, as well as specific education regarding care of the critical care, neurosurgical, and stroke population.

Certifications
Basic Life Support: Health Care Provider, within six months of hire.

Education and Experience
The Patient Care Technician position requires the completion of a high school education or equivalent (GED) and be18 years old. Previous patient care or nursing assistant experience desired. Successfully completes PCT classes as required by care center/unit.
