Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking a Senior Biologist to join our Environmental Services Practice working within our power utility sector in the Northern California region. The position is to be based out of our Walnut Creek, Sacramento, Petaluma, Roseville, Chico, San Jose, or Fresno Office; geographic alignment with other Stantec offices will be considered based on experience. Your Key Responsibilities
Manage tasks and projects according to approved scopes of work, and deliver quality reports on schedule and within budget
Contribute to and lead business development activities, including proposals, pre-qualifications, and relationship building with clients and prospective clients and industry colleagues
Have established relationships with clients and regulatory agency staff
Assignments/projects are advanced in nature and require the application of mature knowledge
Responsible for planning and conducting assignments/ projects having broad scope for independent accomplishment and coordination of difficult tasks
Develop, manage, and implement projects related to wetlands, biophysical impact assessments, environmental assessments, and regulatory approvals
Provide senior technical advisory relating to natural science and biology on multidisciplinary projects
Apply technical and business knowledge and methods to develop creative, effective, and economical solutions to address current and potential project issues. Assist in analyzing current and emerging technical issues, and implementing actions to proactively address market, business, regulatory, and/or economic issues
Present results to clients and regulators. Participate in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work Recommendations are reviewed for soundness of judgment; accepted as accurate and feasible
Provide supervision, training, technical direction and mentoring to more junior staff Executes specific technical tasks or requirements for medium to large projects
Qualifies as a Quality Reviewer and undertakes Quality Reviews of moderate to large deliverables
This position requires coordination with clients, resource agencies, and environmental and technical staff. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and organizational skills are essential. This role will require overseeing all aspects of project management, biological impact assessment and mitigation strategy development, and preparation and review of biological resources documents
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Proficient in and consistently demonstrates and promotes policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training (if applicable)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
Skilled in communications and technical information exchange with clients, engineers and scientists, government regulators and agencies, and academia, as well as non-technical communication to the public
Established relationships with local, state, and federal permitting agencies
Demonstrated experience leading and reviewing biological technical reports, environmental impact evaluation, siting reports, and environmental permit applications, including field surveys and reporting, and resource and impact evaluations
Demonstrated experience with the California and Federal Endangered Species Act consultation processes. Demonstrated experience conducting CEQA and NEPA analysis and preparation of associated documentation
Demonstrated experience leading environmental permitting of energy facilities, pipelines, and/or linear infrastructure projects in the western United States including: USACE 404 wetland permitting, CDFW 1600 Agreements and CESA permitting, RWQCB 401 certifications, and other environmental permitting
Disciplined approach to project execution and technical excellence
Ability to provide written and verbal direction on project delivery

Drives collaborative efforts within the region and beyond to deliver consistent, high quality and appropriately scoped technical work. Good driving record and valid driver's license required
At least four years of experience successfully executing technical aspects of medium to complex projects
10 - 15 years of experience performing biological and permitting work for California IOUs
10 - 15 years of experience performing linear facility (i.e., utility, transportation, etc.) environmental planning and permitting work
Familiar with staffing large field projects, on multiple days, in multiple locations
Strong research, analysis, and reporting abilities
Strong reviewing skills and QA/QC skills
Detail-oriented and capable of managing large data sets
Takes initiative, team-oriented professional with excellent written and communication skills
Familiar with review and analysis of scientific data, maps, and drawings
Experience with environmental permitting
Provide support in delivering high quality work products to multi-disciplinary project teams
Ability to identify new project opportunities and build relationships with clients
Proficient in MS Office application
Education and Experience
BA/BS degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or a related field
Master’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or a related field, preferred
10 - 15 years of experience
CEQA/NEPA experience preferred
CWA 404/401 permitting a preferred
CPUC experience a preferred
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Salary Range(s):
$91,100.00 - $136,600.00 (CA, CO locations only)
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
