Position Summary:

The Alaska Native Studies Program at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) invites applications for a full-time term instructor position. This position is comprised of teaching and service. A successful candidate should have the ability to teach Alaska-Native themed GERs and experience working with diverse populations. A successful candidate should also have evidence of teaching an Alaska Native Language at the college level, and development of associated curriculum. The appointment is a two year appointment with a contract start date of August, 2021 for up to two academic years. The Department seeks a candidate dedicated to equity and diversity of the campus community. This individual will integrate and expand the mission of Alaska Native Studies Program at UAA and support the minor and the AA degree.

Duties:

This position will conduct instructional activity and service as part of a bipartite workload to include teaching courses in Alaska Native themed GERs. The incumbent will be responsible for teaching courses in a manner consistent with the specific course content description. Faculty are expected to hold office hours appropriate for the course(s) being taught. Candidate will teach and work with diverse populations.Essential

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States at the time of application. Candidates must have documented, successful experience teaching at the college level, willingness to work with students and sensitivity to diverse student populations. Evidence of a potential for successful service. Knowledge of, and able to teach an Alaska Native Language(s) is desired, as well as the ability to develop curriculum that reflects Alaska Native knowledge systems.

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

College-level teaching experience required. Ability to engage and collaborate effectively with Alaska Native and diverse communities in the Anchorage/southcentral Alaska area.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

A minimum of an MA degree that reflects knowledge of Alaska Native education, or science, or language, or history and culture.
