POSITION SUMMARY
The Grant Writer will serve as the primary grant writer for the Burns Paiute Tribe. The Grant writer will work with the General Manager and Department Directors to identify, evaluate, write and edit grant proposals on behalf of the Burns Paiute Tribe or individual department. This position will be part-time of 20 hours per week with no benefits and a limited duration of two (2) years dependent upon funding. Work schedule will be flexible to meet the needs of tribal and department demands and deadlines. The Grant Writer will handle confidential information and must exercise discretion in protecting and releasing information.

· Obtain permission from Tribal Council prior to submitting any grant proposal or accepting any awarded grant
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION
· A Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Creative Writing, Public Relations or a related field

· Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Indian preference will be given to candidates showing proof of enrollment in a federally recognized tribe. · Work with the GM and Department Directors to identify and evaluate for grant funding resources

· Work with the GM and Department Directors to write high-quality grant proposals and ensure all required documents and data are correct and submitted

· Develop and manage a grants database to include prospective grantors, with deadlines and requirements, and grant application history including awarded, rejected and declined grants

· All other duties as determined and assigned by the General Manager

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

· A Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Creative Writing, Public Relations or a related field

· 2 Years experience in grant writing with knowledge of proposal submission and fundraising process

· Must be able to communicate effectively both written and orally

· Ability to study and understand programs and funding requirements of the organization

· Strong research skills and knowledge of information sources

· Multitasking, organizational and time management skills

· Ability to handle confidential matters with utmost integrity

OTHER DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Ability to work independently and in a team environment

· Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals

· Physical Ability to perform essential job functions including, but not limited to, sitting for extended periods of time, stranding, walking, stooping/bending, pushing/pulling (approximately 20 lbs.), lifting (approximately 30 lbs.) and climbing stairs.
