Assistant Director of Technical Services

Job Title: Assistant Director of Technical Services

Reports To: Chief Information Officer

Status: Full time, Exempt

General Description

Reporting to the CIO, the Assistant Director of Technical Services is viewed as a senior information technology manager with management responsibilities for the operations and tactical direction of Network Services, Telecommunications Services, and the Systems Support Team. The Assistant Director of Technical Services is considered a “hands-on” leader with mentoring skills to manage process and people to effectively and efficiently achieve the highest level of operational up time and exceptional customer service. The Assistant Director of Technical Services will assist the CIO in budget management and must be capable to construct, manage, and adhere to the budgeting practices of Mount Saint Mary College.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operational management of the Network Services, Telecommunication Services, and the Systems Support Team to include staffing assignments, project design and assignment, management of established project timelines and resources.
  • Assist in the creation of annual budget and operation within budgetary constraints.
  • Prepare annual tactical plans for each subordinate operation that aligns with the goals and objectives of the Mount Saint Mary College and Technology Strategic Plans.
  • Research emerging trends and best practices relating to industry advancements and higher education applicability.
  • Assist the Technology Management team in the development and maintenance of college hardware and software, network access, and telephony standards, policies, practices, and preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Provide direct supervision of all preventive maintenance schedules to ensure compliance and maximum systems up-time.
  • Enable collegial atmosphere of cooperation with other college departments to foster progressive innovation that advances the pursuit and usage of technology.
  • Design and maintain the college-wide area network to maintain a robust operational infrastructure operating in a reliable and secure base of operations. Included are plans to ensure a proper network asset rotation to continuously position Mount Saint Mary College as a leading example in higher education of effective and efficient exploitation of technology.
  • Design computer labs, technology employed in classrooms, and office automation layout to ensure effective and efficient use of both technology and space.
  • Provide leadership in the purchasing and receipt of technology equipment.
  • Facilitate the annual technology hardware and software audit and document findings for auditors.
  • Create the annual staff development plan for all employees under areas of responsibilities.
  • Empower each team to meet all operational goals and objectives in an environment focusing on superior customer service.
  • Responsible for the management and documentation of the campus network diagrams.
  • Planning and management of voice, data, and video technologies to be exploited over both wired and wireless platforms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college in a related Technology field and/or relative professional experience which includes Microsoft Certification for networking/infrastructure design/support.
  • Verifiable, professional work experience in the areas of networking, systems administration, and/or hardware support in a networked environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in leading a team of highly motivated networking professionals.
  • Project management experience in leading a technology team to ensure thorough preparedness and follow through to ensure a successful project completion.
  • Superior customer service skills and ability to mentor staff toward meeting deadline goals and providing continuous customer service improvements.
  • Verifiable networking and structured wiring design, documentation, and maintenance experience.
