POSITION PURPOSE: Shop Foreman supervises, plans, and schedules maintenance and repair activities for Highway Yard heavy equipment, motor vehicles and machinery. Responsible for preventative maintenance programs, work order systems, and fleet maintenance records. Successfully develops programs and regularly evaluates procedures to improve shop and workflow efficiency. Mentors and trains mechanics and staff and assists in solving work problems. Ability to be on call twenty-four hours a day or as needed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include, but are not limited to the following: • Maintains regular attendance at work and is consistently on-time. • Must be able to be present at the designated work site a minimum of 40 hours per work week, as established by the Superintendent. Emergencies require 24-hour on call. • Determines maintenance priority, schedules automotive/diesel work, and makes work assignments. Inspects work in progress and upon completion to ensure consistent quality standards are met. • Determines cost effectiveness of internal or vendor repair and makes recommendations for repair methods and/or replacement of shop equipment and vehicles. • Coordinates the day-to-day workflow of the shop and maintains a daily work log. Makes adjustments to work assignments and priority status as needed. • Ensures that a preventive maintenance schedule/process for all equipment and vehicles is being utilized and accurately maintained. • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of occupational hazards, and safety regulations of the vehicle repair industry. Responsible for maintaining on-going shop security, safe working conditions, and adherence to the safety guidelines set by Oklahoma County, State and Federal law. • Provides training and evaluates employee performance; may make decisions involving hiring, salary increases; initiates and suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals; recommends personnel actions. • Fulfills personnel policies in accordance with established procedures; maintains time sheets, records sick leave, vacation, compensatory time, etc.; maintains production records. • Confers with supervisors of other departments to coordinate joint projects. • Other duties may be assigned.

Experience

Three (3) years of experience in the field of automotive-diesel repair and maintenance, including one (1) year in a supervisory capacity. Must have knowledge of diesel and gas engine repair for trucks, tractors, and road construction equipment. Ability to use hand and power tools. Ability to coordinate the work of a group of workers engaged in all automotive-diesel repair and maintenance. Knowledge of special methods, techniques, material, manuals, or equipment specific to Shop Operations. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction and undertake responsibilities with some initiative and judgment. Ability to successfully pass post-offer, random, and for-cause drug screens.

Education Required

High school diploma or GED required. Graduation from high school supplemented by course work in automotive mechanics, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Certification as a Diesel Mechanic, Truck Mechanic, Body Technician, or other related areas is desired. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) master is preferred.
