The Bement School is a kindergarten through grade nine coeducational day and boarding school

in historic Deerfield, Massachusetts. Bement serves a locally and globally diverse student body

of day students from the CT River Valley and southern Vermont and New Hampshire, as well as

boarding students from many different international locations and US states, and has long

provided a rigorous yet warm learning environment for our students. The Bement School

Bement seeks a part time (12 hr/week) lower school world language (Spanish or Chinese)

teacher for grades K-5 for the 2023-2024 school year.

Description: The Lower School world language teacher is responsible for developing and

implementing curriculum, teaching and supervising children in groups and individually, helping

children grow intellectually, socially, and mentally.

Primary Responsibilities:

● Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials to facilitate active

learning.

● Develop lesson plans and tests that are per established procedures.

● Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.

● Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.

● Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and

procedures. Maintain discipline per the rules and disciplinary systems of Bement.

● Provide students with appropriate feedback on their work.

● Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and development.

● Participate in department, school and parent meetings. Communicate necessary

information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and

student needs.

● Develop and enrich professional skills and knowledge by attending seminars,

conferences, etc.

Position Requirements:

Experience

○ A minimum of 3 years of prior teaching or work experience

Education

○ B.A/B.S degree accredited institution.

○ Masters degree preferred

Desired qualifications:

● fluent and/or native Spanish or Chinese speaker,

● able to share a passion for Spanish or Chinese language and culture around the world,

● knowledgeable about child development and learning differences,

● flexible with a sense of humor and joy in working with children,

Duties are performed in a standard classroom setting utilizing standard equipment, including a
