Job Title:

Assistant or Associate Professor of Public Health, Tenure-Track

Job Summary:

The University of San Francisco (USF) is searching for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor to join the School of Nursing and Health Professions’ Master of Public Health Program at our Hilltop Campus (San Francisco) location. The faculty position carries with it an expectation for excellence in teaching, scholarly productivity, and academic and professional service.
The MPH Program at USF aims to develop public health leaders who will advance public health, social justice, and well-being of local and global populations, particularly the underserved, through innovative and inspired research, service, and teaching that is grounded in the education of the whole person to be a change agent who strives for excellence in all pursuits.
The Department of Health Professions offers three programs, Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Science in Health Informatics (MSHI), and a Doctorate of Psychology in Clinical Psychology (PsyD). The USF MPH Program consists of three concentrations that include Health Policy and Leadership (Sacramento, California location), Behavioral Health (San Francisco location), and Community and Public Health Practice (Orange County and San Francisco locations). U.S. News & World Report has ranked USF as one of the top 10 national universities for ethnic diversity among our students.
The MPH program is accessible to working professionals and taught in the evenings. The program is delivered in distinct formats (in-person, blended learning, and fully online). We prepare our diverse graduates to synthesize and apply evidence-based knowledge of multiple determinants to improve the health of diverse populations, particularly those who are underserved. Our students and graduates serve health programs at the individual, professional, community, organizational, and policy levels that advance and protect public health and health equity, and generate evidence to advance public health and reduce health disparities. Upon completion of the program, graduates will have the tools to improve access, delivery, and evaluation of health services.

It is expected of all faculty in the program to further students’ skills and knowledge in advancing social justice goals. We are looking for candidates who are committed to research, teaching and service that addresses disparities, racial justice, and equity related to population and community health.

Candidates will be expected to advise and mentor MPH students, lead an independent program of research/scholarship, and provide service to the department, university, and profession. Applications are welcome at the Assistant or Associate levels.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Doctorate in Public Health, Global Health, Epidemiology, Health Education, Environmental Health or a related field is required at time of appointment;
  • Strong record of publications and/or other scholarly products commensurate with career stage;

  • Experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds;
  • Demonstrated rigor and creativity within an online, remote and hybrid environment to promote active learning;
  • Experience working successfully in partnership with collaborators and/or community partners;
  • Service or leadership accomplishments.

The appointment will be made at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, depending on years of teaching experience and research/service accomplishments, with possible credit given toward tenure. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to work in a culturally diverse environment and to contribute to the Mission of the University of San Francisco. Experience in academic program administration is desirable, especially for appointment at Associate level.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Additional requirements at the Associate Level: Current appointment at the assistant professor level or higher is expected; track record of excellence in teaching, scholarship and service. Please note if you want to be considered for appointment at the Assistant or the Associate level.
