Telemetry Technician

• Maintains the standards of care and adheres to the policies and procedures of the Bayou Bend Health System patient care services and assigned area.
• Responsible for watching ECG monitors on medical / surgical & intensive care units.
• Observes and interprets cardiac monitor continuously with identification of arrhythmia and notifies ICU nurse, Medical-Surgical nurse, or House Supervisor if uncertain or unclear. Has a basic knowledge of electrocardiography and can read and interpret ECGs following successful completion of the basic ECG course.
• Maintains Telemetry logbook. Obtains printed strips every 4 hours and as needed prn alarms/events. Files these printed strips into the patient’s paper medical record chart. Documents ECG interpretations into the CPSI medical record.
• Maintains telemetry and ECG equipment in good working condition with notification to appropriate personnel if repairs are needed. Performs minor trouble shooting and notifies house supervisor, Unit Director or Biomed (via Facility Dude) of equipment issues.
• Participates in ordering paper and other supplies in a timely and cost-effective fashion.
• Must be able to read and understand physician’s interpretation of ECGs in order to edit and record in the CPSI system as needed.
• Provides shift report to appropriate personnel.
• Required passage of ECG monitor tech course by 80% or better.
• Satisfactory completion of an annual performance skills checklist with ECG testing.
• Demonstrates professional and effective interdepartmental and intradepartmental communication skills.

• High School Diploma or GED preferred
• Nurse Aide Certification in Louisiana helpful
• Successful completion of the basic ECG course.
• Sound communication skills, both oral and written
• Must have working knowledge of computers
