Location: Port Townsend, WA

Environmental Health Specialist I or II:Jefferson County Public Health is seeking an Environmental Health Specialist I or II. The Environmental Health Specialist (EHS) is a professional-level position primarily in the Septic Operations and Monitoring Program. Other duties could include assisting in the food or solid waste program as needed. In this position you will:

• Review reports for deficiencies that need correcting
• Conduct audits of certified professionals and homeowners
• Write Notices of Voluntary Compliance and Notices of Violations
• Develop rules, guidance documents, and educational materials
• Educate homeowners on septic operations and monitoring
• Coordinate with the enforcement team, Sherriff’s Office, and Prosecuting Attorney’s office on enforcement

Education and/or Experience:

EHS I: Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) from four-year college or university in public health, sanitary science, bacteriology, dairy science, veterinary medicine, engineering, or a basic natural or physical science OR related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

EHS II: Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) from four-year college or university in public health, sanitary science, bacteriology, dairy science, veterinary medicine, engineering, or a basic natural or physical science and two (2) years as an EHSI, OR related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Hours & Compensation:

EHS I is 40 hours per week, a UFCW position, Grade 30, $26.10-$32.60, typically starting at $26.10, DOE with benefits.

EHS II is 40 hours per week, a UFCW position, Grade 32, $28.07-$35.06, typically starting at $28.07, DOE with benefits.
