Data Analysis Manager

We seek an energetic individual to fill a senior data management and analysis position in the Department of Preventive Medicine. This position involves leading the data management efforts and team across two large cohort studies participating in the ECHO nationwide consortium funded by NIH--the Children’s Health Study, a nearly 30-year study of the long-term effects of air pollution and other environmental exposures on the health of more than 11,000 Southern California schoolchildren and the MADRES cohort study—a pregnancy cohort study of more than 900 mother child pairs in the Los Angeles. This is an opportunity to work with world-class investigators at USC.

Specifically, the data analysis manager will:

• Supervise and train a team of data management and statistician personnel;
• Serve as lead contact for data management and data transfer protocols to the ECHO Consortium’s Data Analysis Center;
• Perform primary data management and quality control of large epidemiologic data sets of health outcomes, biomarker, biospecimen, as well as complex environmental and genetic data;
• Integrate data from multiple sources and databases including FoxPro, SQL, Redcap, and eLAB;
• Conduct data analysis on longitudinal and cross-sectional data sets using SAS and/or R, including univariate and multivariate statistical techniques such as logistic regression, linear regression, Cox regression and other advanced statistical methods;
• Generate reports and/or datasets for managing recruitment and other data collection and study operations for ongoing follow-up and tracking efforts;
• Assist in interpretation of large epidemiologic datasets;
• Contribute to the writing and preparation of reports, journal articles and conference presentations; and
• Assist in the development of research proposals.

The ideal candidate must have solid proficiency in SAS programming, including data manipulation and documentation, as well as analysis procedures. Master’s degree in biostatistics or epidemiology, or a related field is required to be successful in this position. In addition, applicants having at least 5 years of experience in designing and managing health-related databases and performing statistical analysis with increasing levels of supervisory experience is desired. Candidates must be extremely detail-oriented, have advanced mentoring skills, fluent in English, and possess excellent organizational, communication, and written skills.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree. Combined education/experience as substitute for minimum education Minimum Experience: 5 years. Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum experience Minimum Field of Expertise: Extensive management experience in data modeling, warehousing, and reporting. Comprehensive knowledge of database, spreadsheet, word processing, and statistical software programs in mainframe and personal computer environments. Demonstrated attention to detail, and skills in collaboration, critical analysis, problem solving, and discretion. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
