Under the Supervision and Control of a Physician Pathologists, assists in the performance of anatomic pathology practice by: Preparation and examination of surgical pathology specimens. Performance of postmortem dissection with written description and preparation of tissue sections. Performance of other procedures related to Pathologist's duties. Performance of other technical, supervisory and/or functional direction duties within the scope of practice as directed by the pathologists of Chief Pathologist.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Perform postmortem examinations and descriptions.

  • Process surgical Pathology specimens including dissection, description and embedding for Pathologist's diagnosis.

  • Preparation of fine needle aspiration specimens.

  • Preparation of frozen sections for pathologist's interpretation.

  • Quality control and management of equipment and supplies in the surgical Pathology laboratory and autopsy suite.

  • Quality improvement activities and projects for the Pathology Department.

  • Uphold standards of practice, policies and procedures as contained in the Department's Policy and Procedure Manuals in the surgical pathology and Autopsy service.

  • Continued education and skills assessment concurrent with established and new practices and techniques as applicable in surgical and autopsy pathology.
