Honda R&D is seeking a dynamic associate to join our Vehicle Dynamics Control (VC-VD) team within Advanced Safety Controls (ASC) Division. The role focus around development of Electronic Power Steering (EPS) and Active Suspension systems software integration. As member of ASC Division, your role would support integration of driving assistance and vehicle dynamics control technologies into our vehicles. Our responsibility is to integrate EPS and Active Suspension technology into Light Duty Truck (LDT) development vehicles. This integration requires direct coordination with Tier 1 suppliers such as ZF, Bosch, Continental, etc.

At the Engineer III Level, you will take ownership and more of a leadership role when it comes to developing a function or feature on the vehicle. You will work under the leadership and guidance of senior members in the group but often with a significant level of autonomy. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills coupled with the willingness to pro-actively seek out information from others and convert concepts into control requirements.

The primary responsibilities involve developing the functional requirements related to CAN interface, Self-Diagnostic, Failsafe Detection for each vehicle development. To successfully complete the development the candidate will be working directly with the system supplier to lead the integration of these functions into the vehicle, as well as verification of the functions. The candidate will also be responsible for negotiating requirements with the autonomous/semi-autonomous control systems team and coordinating with design functions to ensure correct control specifications are applied to the drawings. This position will also coordinate with factory associates during build phases to ensure controls are achieving required specifications and lead chassis software/control issue resolution across Sales, Engineering, and Design.

Roles include project management activities, overseeing the testing of the related vehicle systems, negotiating the hardware and software interfaces to integrate the system into the vehicle, instrumenting and troubleshooting vehicles for testing, analyzing test data, and proposing and implementing solutions for test failures.

Must have solid ability to breakdown complex concepts / systems into simple summaries. Must have the capability to successfully manage multiple projects in unison and provide weekly updates regarding the status of those projects. Must have the qualities to lead with positivity when faced with obstacles to success.

Minimum Qualifications:

• BS with 5+ years of work experience, or MS with 3+ years of work experience
• Majors: Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or Computer Science
• Must have understanding of electrical components, EMC and ultrasonic.
• Must have understanding of requirements management, function validation, diagnostics, and CAN structures.
• Familiarity with control specification development
• Hands on mechanical ability / understanding of vehicle systems and cross functional interactions
• Demonstrated analytical skills necessary to troubleshoot control system issues, propose and implement potential solutions.
• Strong PC Skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Project and other technical software)
• Experience with data acquisition systems such as Vector CAN tools is a plus
• Familiarity with ISO 26262 standard for functional safety

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2-3 years of experience with Electronic Power Steering systems
• 2-3 years of experience in automotive R&D (supplier experience is sufficient)
• 5+ years of experience using data analysis tools such as Vector CANalayzer, ETAS INCA, or similar
• Experience with IBM ALM toolset (RTC, DNG, RQM)
• Experience with control system FTA / FMEA development
• ISO26262 certification
