The British Museum is offering an exciting opportunity for a Project Coordinator: Collection and Documentation to join the Collection Care department. The post holder will lead and manage a team of Collection Coordinators, and will be responsible for the delivery of key aspects of the Museum’s extensive programme of acquisitions and long-term loans. They will also be responsible for documentation workflows, standards and processes in the Collection Management System (MI+) relating to acquisitions and long-term loans, and will support the Museum’s Treasure activity (part of the Portable Antiquities Scheme).

Key areas of responsibility:

Lead and manage a team of Collection Coordinators and trainee posts as required and in line with the programme of activity. Work closely with the internal and external colleagues on the planning and logistics of acquisitions, long-term loans in and out, and aspects of Treasure activity at the Museum. Deliver standard processes, and monitor and report on acquisitions, loans and Treasure efficiently and effectively. Ensure compliance with licences, legal requirements and statutory obligations and assist in risk identification and review.

Person specification:

Educated to degree level in a relevant subject (or holding equivalent experience), the successful candidate will have experience of acquisitions and loans administration and financial administration, with a proven ability to synthesise and report on information orally and in writing. They will also be proficient in collection databases. Practical knowledge of loan couriering, object handling, packing and display is desirable, along with experience of project processes including risk and issue management.

The ideal candidate will be articulate and persuasive, with effective interpersonal skills that give them the ability to work with a variety of internal and external colleagues. They will have highly developed organisational skills and will be able to plan and prioritise effectively.
